We are proud to announce that with our commitment to environmental and social change we have now partnered with 1% for the Planet.
As a company we believe we have a responsibility to bring about positive change and do what we can to leave this place, our planet, in a better state than we found it. We should look after the people we impact and take responsibility for our products and actions. We want to work with customers and partnership brands that share our ethos.
We joined 1% for the Planet as we wanted to formalise our commitment to give back to the social and environmental causes that we believe in. For a young business 1% of sales is a significant commitment, but a commitment that we firmly believe is an essential component of doing business in the right way. As a commercial entity we must make profits to survive but that should never be by risking the survival of our planet and its' people.
As a company that roasts ethically sourced coffee, we are very much aware of the impact the international coffee industry can have on farms, families and villages. Coffee farming can transform the success of certain areas however the distribution of wealth can be uneven and while some thrive it is not uncommon to find many close to the farm who do not share this success. Coffee production has two main methods of processing, dry natural processing, and wet washed processing. As the name suggests the wet processing requires water and the use of irrigation often means villages can be starved of the water that they require while the farm gets the water for cultivation.
This means there is a balancing act between the commercial success of the farm and the basic human requirement of water. Of course, we all know what the priority should be but we are in the real world and the right thing isn't always the thing that happens.
As part of our commitment to 1% for the Planet we will continue to support Project Waterfall who provide clean water, sanitation, and education to coffee-growing communities across the world. They have changed more than 50,000 lives since 2011 and are working to end the water crisis in our lifetime. You can learn more about their work, or get involved, at projectwaterfall.org.
1% for the Planet has made our commitment clear and we are very proud to be part of their community. Meet the founders below.
